If your idea of an awesome bachelorette entails phallic-shaped straws, matching outfits (and the requisite group pics that go along with them) and getting a table at some trendy nightclub, this probably isn’t the right list for you. While there’s certainly no shame in doing all the standard pre-wedding girls’ trip stuff (it’s a blast and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise), some brides are looking for unique ideas that don’t fall into the been-there-done-that bachelorette destination box. Maybe that’s hiking through red rocks, exploring dramatic coastal cliffs in Big Sur or navigating Iceland’s ice fields? Or, perhaps, it’s a sun-drenched escape to a less-traveled Caribbean Island. Any getaway can be an epic bachelorette as long as the bride is happy and she has her pals along for the adventure. Here, we’ve rounded up 30 of the most unique bachelorette party destinations.

19 Swoon-Worthy Engagement Party Dresses for Brides from $26 to $595

1. Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Santa Teresa is a low-key beach town on the Nicoya Peninsula that’s the perfect blend of unspoiled scenery, laid-back atmosphere and fun. Ride around on ATVs (the roads aren’t paved), sign up for surf lessons, practice vinyasa flow in an oceanfront yoga shala, hit up one of the beach bars and snap selfies at sunset.

2. Saint Mary’s, Antigua And Barbuda

The Bahamas and Jamaica are awesome—but literally everyone knows that. Antigua is a laid-back and luxurious Caribbean Island that usually attracts the honeymooners. But it really does have all the makings of an adult (and not too bachelorette-y) bachelorette trip. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the sandy beaches (there are over 365 of them), care-free vibe and upscale boutique resorts. Kick off the festivities with the Copper & Lumber Store Hotel’s seafood buffet, take the scenic 90-minute ferry to Barbuda, and pick up souvenirs and traditional crafts at Nelson’s Dockyard.

3. Big Sur, California

With its dramatic coastline and towering redwoods, Big Sur is endlessly beautiful. Why not celebrate your upcoming betrothal with a glamping getaway? Getting out into nature is a great way to bond with your besties. And it’s not like you’ll be roughing it. S’mores, campfire stories about the bride in her single days and comfy beds? Um, yes please! Start the adventure in the quaint town of Carmel-by-the-Sea and weave your way down the legendary Highway 1. Essential stops: Bixby Bridge for great hiking, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park for dazzling sunsets and exquisite artwork at the Hawthorne Gallery.

4. Reykjavik, Iceland

The beauty of Reykjavik is the ability to bop between outdoor activities. Think dog sledding, whale watching, hiking through lava fields and crater climbs. Then, there are cultural institutions like the National Museum of Iceland and striking Hallgrimskirkja cathedral, plus the Perlan planetarium. Of course, it’s not a girls’ trip or last hurrah to singledom without an epic spa day, right? Head to Blue Lagoo, a drop-dead-gorgeous geothermal spa. One more spot you’re sure to swoon over? The rooftop at The Reykjavik EDITION with its panoramic mountain and ocean views.

5. Florence, Italy

Is it possible for everyone to jet off to Florence for a long weekend? Absolutely not. But, if you can swing it with work and finances, there’s a whole lot of upside to spending your bachelorette in the Cradle of the Renaissance. Art museums, pasta, gelato, river views, handcrafted leather and a short drive to some of the best wineries in the world—now that’s amore!

6. Jamestown, Rhode Island

Lots of brides plan their bash in Newport. But few even know about the nearby small town of Jamestown. So, we’re going to let you in on a little secret: The seafood restaurants (JB’s on the Water is a must), cute shops and frame-worthy views of Narragansett Bay make it a great choice if you’re down for charm but keen to avoid the crowds. Other local attractions include the historic Watson Farm, Windmill Hill and the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum—perfect for a charming and relaxing weekend before you tie the knot.

7. Sayulita, Mexico

We’re not saying Cabo, Playa del Carmen and Tulum are passé, but they’ve def been done…a lot. Craving a more chill seaside town that’s still vibrant and far less touristy? Consider staying at a small boutique hotel in Sayulita, a Pueblo Mágico on Mexico’s Pacific coast that has beautiful beaches, enchanting architecture, tradition and authentic food without the crowds or sprawling all-inclusive resorts. You’ll want to book a catamaran cruise (what better place to make a toast?) and make sure to wander the vibrant neighboring villages of Sayulita and San Pancho, while Mercado del Pueblo is a great spot to experience local produce and crafts.

8. Ojai, California

You’ve done coastal California more times than you can count, so why not drive inland? Ojai is a charming small town where you can eat great food (The Nest and Ojai Tortilla House are two of our fave eateries), do a little shopping (hit up Bart’s Books and The Naturalist Wines) and go hiking in Los Padres National Forest. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s home to one of the best hotels in the Golden State—the Ojai Valley Inn, which is a destination in its own right. What better place to celebrate your bachelorette weekend?

unique bachelorette party destinations Daufuskie Island

9. Daufuskie Island, South Carolina

Located between the popular vacation destinations of Hilton Head Island and Savannah, under-the-radar Daufuskie Island is a hidden gem with a population of just 500 that’s only accessible by boat. If the lady of the hour is sure to lose her mind over bottlenose dolphins leaping out of the waves and loggerhead turtles nesting on the pristine shoreline, this tiny Southern island is your spot. Toast the bride to be at Daufusukie Island Rum Company, known for its bourbon, cocktails, vodka and rum—naturally. For stellar seafood, you’ll want to stop in at Daufuskie Crab Co. and order a some deviled crab. As for the sights, the local historical foundation won’t disappoint.

Paris is always a good idea, whether it’s for a romantic weekend with your sweetie or a girl’s trip. In the City of Light, you can trade the traditional bachelorette trappings for fashionable shops, chic French bistros and traipsing around trendy Saint-Germain-des-Prés. (One off-the-beaten-path attraction is the iconic taxidermist, Deyrolle.) If the bride is into art, say “oui oui” to booking a private nighttime tour of the Louvre. And before you book table number 10 at Angelina, consider having a bachelorette teatime at Carette by the Eiffel Tower instead.

13. Moss, Tennessee

It sort of feels like you can’t go a block or two without stumbling upon a bachelorette party in Nashville. Less than two hours outside of the Music City sits a very different type of girls’ getaway, one that’s geared towards fresh air, leafy trees and snoozing in glamping cabins or lake homes. Think hiking, swimming and boating in Standing Stone State Park, wine tasting at Red Barn Winery and sampling cheese at Kenny’s Farmhouse. And, since Moss is close to the historic city of Celina, you can still plan a mellow night out.

14. St. Kitts

It’s not the easiest Caribbean island to get to, and that’s probably why St. Kitts isn’t overrun with tourists. Pass the time by playing some fun bachelorette games on the plane. Once you land, it’s all golden sand beaches, fresh seafood, rainforest excursions and just a handful of resorts that never feel crowded. Whether you’re taking a snorkeling tour, roving the island on ATVs or taking the train trek, unoriginal isn’t a word that will apply to this bachelorette weekend. Seems well worth connecting flights to us.

15. Oceanside, California

San Diego gets a lot of love, bachelorette and otherwise. But just 45 minutes up the coast sits Oceanside. Beautiful sandy beaches, an iconic wooden pier and a photogenic harbor and a slew of exciting restaurants make this small seaside city one to watch—and visit. 16. Honolulu, Hawaii

Who wouldn’t want to have their bachelorette in the Aloha State? Honolulu is paradise and has a bit more going on than some of the other more low-key, albeit incredibly lovely, islands. Think snorkeling in Turtle Canyon, hiking at Diamond Head State Monument and eating your way through the Dole plantation. That’s great news for ladies who like loads of activities as well as dining and nightlife to complement stunning, palm-fringed sandy beaches.

17. Telluride, Colorado

For a bride who loves to ski, you can’t beat Telluride.

“The town is absolutely stunning and there is no shortage of Instagram-friendly spots,” says PureWow Commerce Editor Olivia Dubyak. “While there isn’t a ton of night life, there are several bars and good food to raise a few glasses—Brown Dog Pizza has delicious Detroit style pizza to relax with a beer and fill your bellies. You also must take the Telluride Gondola to Telluride Mountain Village to hit some slopes or visit the quaint bars and restaurants in the mountains.”

Even during the off-season when it’s not possible to swish down the slopes (or imbibe in the après ski scene), there’s still plenty to appeal about this former mining town turned outdoor recreation hotspot in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Tackle the (appropriately named) Bridal Veil hike or raft down the San Miguel River.

18. Victoria, Canada

Victoria is an unexpectedly awesome destination for a weekend of wellness. First up, Ritual Nordic Spa, a Scandinavian-style sanctuary with various types of saunas, a eucalyptus steam room, plunge pools and a salt lounge. You’ll also find a robust menu of services at the Willow Stream Spa, including facials, massages and body treatments. Once you’re done being pampered, the capital of British Columbia boasts plenty of buzzy locales if you’re keen to take your post-facial glow out on the town. We suggest strolling Fisherman’s Wharf and the Victoria and Butchart Gardens.

19. Hudson, New York

A two-hour train ride away from the “City That Never Sleeps,” is a totally different type of bachelorette destination. One that’s far more restful and relaxing.

“Hudson is a hipster gal’s dream,” says PureWow Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida. “In addition to the beautiful hiking in the area, there’s a slew of art galleries and vintage shopping. You could easily spend the day popping in and out of boutiques and cafes on Warren Street or hit the massive Antique Warehouse for unique home buys the bride won’t find on her registry. Kick things off with one of the famous farm-to-table burgers at Grazin’ Diner and end the evening with dinner and drinks at the plush Maker Hotel in the heart of town.”

If you want to explore the surrounding area, Olana State Historic Site is a great spot for some fresh air and an opportunity to brush up on your art history. And for the budding collectors in the bachelorette party, the Carrie Haddad Gallery is filled with local art, including sculpture, painting and photography.

It’s an idyllic area with quiet charm and world-class wineries like Violet Vines, Saffron Fields and Domain Drouhin. When you’re done sipping your way through the bucolic vine-covered scenery, head to one of the region’s stellar fine dining establishments, including pan-European Pinch, Asian-African fusion Cypress and gastropub Blind Pig.

The sunny British island territory of Bermuda is a perfect place to bliss out for a few days. Home to pink sand beaches, turquoise tides, golf courses (the most leisurely and social of sports, we’re told), relaxing resorts and maritime history, it’s truly a stress-free escape that will put all the hoopla of place cards, floral arrangements and late RSVPs very far away. Spend your time exploring beautiful caves and underground lakes, snorkeling near a shipwreck and doing luxury shopping on colorful Front Street.

23. Louisville, Kentucky

For ladies who want to take a bite of life, Louisville is a delicious destination that’s not to be missed. In between memorable meals, carve out some time to ride the Belle of Louisville, the oldest operating Mississippi River-style steamboat in the world, and visit Copper & Kings American Brandy Company. Of course, you’re also in the home of the Kentucky Derby, so if you happen to be visiting in season, a trip to Churchill Downs is a must.

24. Zion National Park

A full-throttle, action-packed wilderness adventure in a southwest Utah national park isn’t necessarily the first thing that screams bachelorette party to everyone. But, for an outdoorsy bride who likes trekking, stargazing, camping or glamping and breathtaking desert scenery, exploring the massive red sandstone cliffs, slot canyons and waterways (Google the “Zion Narrows wading hike”) in Zion National Park might just be the ultimate pre-wedding trip. Experienced hikers will enjoy the challenging Angel’s Landing path, which yields magnificent views over the canyon, or The Narrows, which is exactly what it sounds like. Love scenery but prefer not to sweat it? Take the scenic drive instead.

25. Stowe, Vermont

One of the best small towns in the Green Mountain State, Stowe is a cozy, scenic and deliberately slower place to plan a New England-charm-steeped bachelorette that will leave your heart full of fond memories—including skiing in the winter, jaunts to Smugglers’ Notch State Park and Moss Glen Falls during the warmer months. No matter the season, you can book yourselves into the spa at Stoweflake Mountain Resort, catch a show at the local theater and have a hearty meal at the beloved Von Trapp Brewery. (Yes, those Von Trapps.)

26. Tucson, Arizona

A weekend of wellness in a cacti-dotted desert setting is a wonderful alternative to a few days of debauchery. On the docket in Tucson? Spend an afternoon exploring the landscape of Saguaro National Park and visiting the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. All that exploring requires pampering, of course, and lucky for you, the city is home to many wellness resorts. (We recommend the day pass for Canyon Ranch Tucson). You’re guaranteed to have a great time and leave feeling totally rejuvenated, closer to your besties and ready to walk down the aisle.

unique bachelorette party destinations: toronto, canada

27. Toronto, Canada

A lot of groups go to Montreal. Toronto, however, has yet to take off as a big bachelorette destination.

“Canada’s most populous city is a dream,” says PureWow Assistant Editor Delia Curtis. “Bordered by water on one side (Lake Ontario, baby!), this lake-side metropolis is chalk-full of activities. From ascending the CN Tower (either from the safety of inside or bungee-corded to the side) for breathtaking views of the entire city to diving down under to witness endless sea creatures at the Ripley’s Aquarium, there’s no shortage of fun to be had. Plus, you don’t want to miss a walk along the Harbourfront neighborhood for the gorgeous scenery.”

And that’s not even taking into account the restaurant scene. Butterflied Portuguese chicken at Martins Churrasqueira, mango mojito ice cream at Good Behavior and Iranian cuisine at Banu...need we go on?  Safe to say the bride (and her maids) won’t be bored for even a moment, eh?

28. Boulder, Colorado

“If you’re an outdoorsy bride who wants the balance of exciting night life and shopping, Boulder is an ideal spot for you,” Dubyak says. “Pearl Street is vibrant, exciting and will allow the girlies to bar hop from spot to spot (I highly recommend the rooftop of Rosetta Hall) and get a delicious brunch in the morning at River and Woods (get the sausage patties).” The town also has gorgeous scenery and excellent hiking. After you’ve eten your way down Pearl Street, hit the trails. Boulder Canyon, Mount Sanitas and Wonderland Lake are all great options.

unique bachelorette party destinations: vieques puerto rico

29. Vieques, Puerto Rico

There’s no shortage of bars and casinos in San Juan, but Vieques offers a decidedly more low-key bachelorette with plenty of sunshine, sand, azure tides, swaying palms, seafood and Pitorro cocktails. It’s the type of getaway that feels like an actual break from real life—which, for frenzied brides, is sure to be a welcome change of pace from dress alterations and band setlists. Bask in the serenity of a nighttime bioluminescent boat tour, spend a lazy afternoon sunbathing on Playa Navío and indulge in family-style meals at La Gran Parada.

unique bachelorette party destinations: healdsburg, california
Diane Miller/Getty Images

30. Healdsburg, California

No shade to Sonoma (it’s truly one of the most magical grape-focused destinations in the world), but a Cali wine country bachelorette bash isn’t a really novel idea—with one major exception. Healdsburg is a quaint country town that’s just as much about art and food as sipping vino at the many splendid wineries and tasting rooms. In town, hit the Coppola Movie Museum and enjoy a Michelin-approved meal at Valette. As for wine tasting, the true off-the-beaten-path destination is Dry Creek Valley, just northwest of the town. Here, over 70 wineries are tucked into the rolling hillside, offering everything from cabernet sauvignon to pinot noir and syrah.
